A WONDERFUL TOUR. Winnie Awuor May 3
River Kenzo flows from East of Kaparuto land to the west. It was at the bank of this river where we lived. I actually can’t tell why my parents had chosen to live in this area that appeared very inhuman. Perhaps they know better than I could know. “Where is Winnie” My grand mum asked my younger brother who seemed confused due to the hunger and starvation currently being experienced in Koparuto land. I found myself before my grand mum, and inquired why I was being looked for. Oh!, it was Becky, the fat lady who is always on the helping side. She had come with good news. But what could she eat now that she was my visitor? My grand mum who seemed very happy had heard of the good news. It was about a journey that was to take place the following day. “Tomorrow you have to be at Karibuni by 8am okay?” said my grand mum. “You will be traveling to Homa bay tomorrow with your sponsors” she added. My happiness was beyond explanation and I was out to ensure that all that I needed for the journey was in place. The night that day was so long, but the morning finally came. The morning was chilly with every evidence of good day in it. I quickly got ready and by 9am,i was at Karibuni. The vehicle was already taking off when I arrived. “Oh! God must be on my side,” I said to myself as the vehicle stopped and waited for me to get in. Within 30min we were at Homa bay. “Is that where they manufacture iron sheets?” asked Peninah who seemed not to have seen a lake. As I walked a short distance behind Richard Genns whose long strides could not match mine, my attention was drawn to a matatu that was heading to Migori .To my surprise there were some passengers on the rack of the vehicle and yet the policemen were ahead of the place they were heading to. How were they going to pass the corps? I stared at it until it was out of my sight. “Winnie!” Richard Genns called, as I saw him standing outside the boat looking at me, immediately I entered into the boat and the boat-rider continued with his job. We went up to a small an island called Sucru where I saw different creatures like weaverbird. On returning to Homa – Bay Tourist Hotel we took our lunch where we ate different food like proteins, carbohydrates and fruits. The following day we woke up and traveled to Homa hills in Rachuonyo district where we saw soda-ash producing hot water from the ground where I leant some Geography such as types of rocks. Before the 2nd shakes of a dark tail we were to be back to Ndhiwa specifically at Karibuni, on reaching Homa bay, we went top shivling supermarket where drinking water was s bought for us. It reached a time that we were to be back home. It was around 3pm where everybody was tired that what we were seeing was home with no doubt, when we reached at Karibuni, we bid bye to Richard and fellow students from UK. We then departed to our various homes. That day will remain in the most conscious part of my brain. I will have to remember that opportunity only k nocks once at every persons door.
